## Connect ChatGPT or Claude Step by Step

### 1. Enable the WordPress MCP Endpoint

In WordPress, go to **PurioChat → Chat Settings → MCP**. Turn on **Allow AI connections**, choose an access profile, save the settings, and confirm the status says **Ready to connect**. PurioChat displays separate MCP addresses for ChatGPT and Claude, so copy the URL from the matching provider card.

Select Read only for the first connection unless the assistant must create content. This gives you a safe way to confirm that authentication and tool discovery work. You can move to Content editor or a custom profile after the initial test.

### 3. Add the Endpoint to ChatGPT

In ChatGPT, open Settings → Security and Login and enable **Developer mode**. Then open Plugins, click the plus button to add a plugin, name it PurioChat, select **Server URL**, and paste the ChatGPT address copied from WordPress.

In Claude, open **Settings → Connectors**, then choose **Add → Add Custom Connector**. Name the connector PurioChat and paste the separate Claude address copied from the Claude provider card in WordPress.

The AI service redirects you to WordPress. Sign in, review the enabled access groups, and approve or deny the request. The service never receives your WordPress password. The connection stays authorized with a rotating refresh token and remains limited by both the enabled MCP groups and the connected user’s WordPress capabilities.

Then test a permitted write action, such as `Create a draft page titled Returns Policy`. Asking for a draft makes the result easy to inspect before publication.

An MCP connection does not receive unlimited WordPress access by default. Every tool call must pass both the chosen MCP permission and the connected user’s normal WordPress capability check. **Custom permissions** are usually the best long-term choice because they can match the assistant to one clear job.

At the time of publication, the first-party inventory lists **88 MCP tools**: 48 for WordPress, 34 for WooCommerce, and six for PurioChat data. Tool availability still depends on the access profile and the connected WordPress account.

- **WordPress content:** work with posts, pages, public custom post types, taxonomies, media, comments, and non-protected custom fields. A practical request is to turn meeting notes into a draft and assign an existing category.
- **WooCommerce catalog:** inspect or update products, stock, variations, and global attributes. For example, the assistant can summarize variations that need an inventory review.
- **Store operations:** access sanitized order information, coupons, sales summaries, approved settings, and customer records when explicitly permitted. Refund tools use preview and confirmation controls rather than unrestricted immediate execution.
- **PurioChat data:** read conversation history, contact messages, statistics, and trained site knowledge. These MCP tools cannot reply to a live visitor conversation.

## Plugin Endpoint or Official MCP Adapter?

Use a packaged endpoint when you want **a guided WordPress setup**, predefined permissions, and ready-made WooCommerce operations. It is the shorter path for editors and store managers who do not want to register abilities or build a custom transport.
